Positions: North Region Census Coordinator /  South Region Census Coordinator

Position summary:

ACIJ is seeking two full-time Census Coordinators to lead our census outreach initiatives within immigrant communities in the north and south regions of Alabama.  These positions require frequent travel to hard-to-count counties in the region. The Coordinators will work with a team of fellow coordinators, organizers, and community leaders to build community trust, educate communities about the census, and facilitate sites for census completion.  All coordinators will be trained and are expected to have regular reports and check-ins with staff. Coordinators are responsible for meeting specific measures for contact, education, and census participation.

These positions will potentially lead to further civic engagement work for the 2020 elections.

 

Core responsibilities include:

  • Work with regional ACIJ Organizers, Leadership Council, and Executive Director to accomplish position goals

  • Run regional parts of census engagement, conduct education events and facilitate local sites for census completion

  • Work with and strengthen the network of grassroots leaders and facilitate the building of lasting relationships with immigrant communities

  • Maintain frequent communication with regional staff and Executive Director to coordinate and inform of organizing work and progress

  • Submit weekly work reports to Executive Director, along with schedule of upcoming events

  • Other responsibilities as determined by the program needs

 

Ideal qualifications and requirements:

  • Strong commitment to ACIJ’s goal of building a powerful justice movement for immigrants in Alabama

  • Understanding of the issues and policies that affect immigrants, especially in Alabama 

  • Has experience building strong relationships with affected immigrant communities and leaders

  • Ability to prioritize and be accountable to work plans with limited supervision and incorporate direct feedback

  • Willingness to travel across the designated work regions and to our central office in Birmingham for meetings and events

  • Full-time access to reliable transportation with a minimum of liability insurance coverage

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including frequent weekends and evenings

  • Fluent Spanish communication skills (written and verbal) required

These are temporary independent contractor positions.  Pay is $2000 per month, with 30-40 hours/week expected.

Mileage will be reimbursed for distances beyond your home area.
