About ACIJ:
The Alabama Coalition for Immigrant Justice (ACIJ) is a network of individuals and organizations working for the rights and dignity of all people by cultivating just policies, encouraging grassroots leadership and participation, building alliances, and amplifying the voices and contributions of immigrants in Alabama.

Position summary:
ACIJ is seeking a Bi-lingual full-time Organizer to lead community organizing within immigrant communities in this region of Alabama. The Organizer will work with a team of fellow organizers and community leaders statewide to develop campaigns, build leadership and increase capacity among grassroots immigrant communities. The Organizer will build relationships and actively engage ally communities in campaigns and movement building efforts. The Organizer will work closely with board committees and report to the Executive Director.

Core Responsibilities include:

Work with the other regional ACIJ Organizers, Leadership Council, Executive Director and Board of Directors to develop the statewide organizing strategy and work plan.

Run regional parts of campaigns, conduct education events, civic engagement and leadership development activities.

Support coordination and organizing efforts of local grassroots Leadership Council.

Develop and strengthen the network of grassroots leaders and facilitate the building of lasting relationships between immigrant communities, allies and elected officials.

Create opportunities for grassroots membership to help define priorities and direction for carrying out ACIJ’s mission and vision.

Outreach and develop youth leadership particularly supporting DACAmented students.

Maintain frequent communication with Executive Director to coordinate and inform of organizing work and progress.

Submit weekly organizing work reports to Executive Director, along with schedule of upcoming events.

Other responsibilities as determined by the Executive Director.
Ideal qualifications and qualities:
-
Strong commitment to ACIJ’s goal of building a powerful justice movement for immigrants in Alabama
-
Understanding of the issues and policies that affect immigrants, especially in Alabama
-
Has experience building strong relationships with affected immigrant communities and leaders
-
Has community organizing experience (direct action, political organizing or campaign experience)
-
Strong skills in building alliances between diverse communities
-
Ability to build consensus among diverse interests; strong interpersonal, communication, and team-building skills
-
Ability to prioritize and be accountable to work plans with limited supervision and incorporate direct feedback
-
Willingness to travel across the central region and to our central office in Birmingham for meetings and events; full-time access to reliable transportation with a minimum of liability insurance coverage

Willingness to work flexible hours, including frequent evenings and weekends

Written and verbal bilingual (English-Spanish) communication skills required
