We demand dignity for George Floyd and an end to state-sanctioned violence

Updated: Aug 11, 2020

“I can't breathe” and then… silence. This past Monday, George Floyd, a Black man living in Minneapolis, died after police officer Derek Chauvin knelt with a knee on Floyd’s neck for nine minutes. Floyd, who was handcuffed, pleaded to the officer for his life. George Floyd should be alive today — and there is no justification for the inhumane and lethal use of force by Minneapolis officers.

We stand in solidarity with our brethren as we mourn and rage over another Black life lost in the hands of systemic racism and militarized policing. The officers involved in this killing have been rightfully terminated and should be charged with murder.

This act of police brutality and heartless cruelty is unacceptable. We must act, as a nation and as individuals, to dismantle a system of policing that was built on the scaffolds of slavery and white supremacy.

Join us in calling for reforms to the use of deadly force, police training, and police accountability to the people they serve.
